How to be Cool:
Share your life

You can't be cool sitting alone watching TV. Likewise, the Internet doesn't count as socializing. If you have one hand on the webcam, and the other on your, eh, reproductive organs; you won't be truly cool. You certainly won't radiate coolness for your selfish enterprise.

If you steal a great catchphrase from television or the net that you're partaking in solo -you're still alone, you can't use it on anyone. There is no such thing as "cool in a vacuum." You have to meet people, mingle, and mix.

Being cool is about being social

Social circles thrive on sharing. Speech is the cheapest thing to share and tends to excite the most.

If you don't think you can hang out with people, you are in error, you can change. People change their personalities all the time. You should share and socialize. Right now.

Most "shy" people completely forget about various socializing episodes where they interacted and they were kind of cool. Everyone is social at some point. The trick is to remember the positive times, and keep interacting.

Micro Tutorial on Overcoming Shyness

The next time you buy gum, strike up a conversation with the cashier. The clerks are very bored so this is actually a nice welcoming environment. The topic should be something of your's, very private and maybe even dirty. You want to move them, to laugher, to tears, or somewhere in between. Your tale should have a controversial spin to it and should be an unstoppable monologue.

Don't wait for a golden moment to start. Just go, talk your story and sculpt it by how they're reacting. I'd guess, "on-the-fly storytelling craftsmanship" is the weakest skill in a shy person. Knowing when to speed up, slow down, or dive into more detail is a hallmark trait of the un-shy. There's not much to lose, unless there is a long line, and if you're shy you have to start somewhere. Plus, gum is dirt cheap. The tuition is very affordable.
